Un vrai pavé contenant l'univers de Mark Ryden. Très illustré, et de très bonne qualité pour un tarif tout à fait raisonnable
Very, very huge. I didn't read the dimensions but I assumed it was just going to be either the size of a regular book or a little big bigger... And turns out it was the size of the textbook. I personally don't mind though! All the pages are so pretty to look at. I admire Mark Rydens work so much, so this was perfect for me. Goes great with my decor as well! Would recommend!
The difference between the first printing and the updated printing of Pinxit is that the first printing had a different cover, was larger and had centerfolds of the details and larger pieces. This new printing is smaller, more pages, single and double pages instead of centerfolds (with smaller frames. One Black and white image in particular, now you can't even make out the details!), updated paintings, photos and drawings from the Gay 90's West Show including the Katy Perry painting.Still this is an incomplete career retrospective. The missing paintings can be found in the book, Fushigi Circus and the book Wondertoonel has a Lincoln painting that wasn't published in either of these collections. You can buy them used here on Amazon. Mark Ryden's paintings have many common themes that Trevor Brown does. This is the mix of cuteness, creepiness and sexuality. Except Mark Ryden adds World Symbolism and Freemasonry with a mix of Christianity and an obsession with Abraham Lincoln. The main difference between Mark Ryden and Trevor Brown is that Mark Ryden gets away with it and is supported by the art majority movers.I have to give the new edition 4 out of 5 stars which was my original rating. This is is based not on the quality of the work, but the format and it's incompleteness. The original artists edition of Pinxit was ridiculously expensive yet had the same amount of pages as the market first edition. The updated edition has more pages and new work and costs less money. The market edition of Pinxit cost about $68.00 on Amazon. Therefore, there is no reason not to produce a complete career retrospective in a affordable hardcover. I went to see the original Gay 90's Exhibition at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York. There were many drawings produced for that Exhibit, yet only a small portion are shown in Pinxit. There are drawings for all of Mark Ryden's paintings. Many are studies. Imagine if we had a complete retrospective It would be an amazing art collection to own. Mark Ryden's lush detailed paintings have an ability to make you react (the creepiness factor). Or make you wonder why you are reacting the way you do (the sexuality factor). As the Godfather of Pop Surrealism, sometimes he brings a smile to your face (the cuteness factor). Other times you are trying to interpret his paintings (the mix of World Symbolism , Freemasonry, Christianity and his obsession with Lincoln).However, it is Trevor Brown who is credited for this style of painting he named, "Sinister Innocence". And it is Trevor Brown who is copied more often and has a community of fans who recreates his paintings in photos he updates on his website. I love Mark Ryden's body of work, but let's give credit where credit is due. Check out Trevor Brown if you like this theme. Support his work too and buy his books.
Outstanding as always. It's Ryden. Would one expect different? As to the book, it's oversized, thick, and would look impressive on a coffee table. Get two, though. One for people to thumb through, (and likely ruin in the process), and one to hide away for yourself, if, like me, you like your books to be in pristine condition.
I get to see a number of her originals in a friends collection but never tire of enjoying her books
Huge, thick book covering Ryder's entire career from his early years (including the INSANE Dangerous album cover) up to the early 2010's with the Gay 90's exhibition. Phenomenal prints with select close ups. Epic book. Get it.
